Visiting city of Peoria, Arizona, libraries is one of the most fun, free things you could do with your kiddos in the Phoenix West Valley.

Sunrise Mountain Library

Sunrise Mountain library in Peoria has the cutest area for young children to play. The children’s area includes a train track set, an interactive wall, and kid-themed computers with headphones.

The sunrise mountain library holds storytime classes for toddlers and babies. Here’s a link to their storytimes and themes.

For Teens

The Sunrise Mountain library offers practice driving tests and materials for teens so that the teen can readily prepare for their actual test.

Before Covid, the Sunrise library held arts and activities like craft clubs and teen paint nights, plus a few community clubs would come together to talk and do activities. We hope those will be back again soon! Here is a link to those activities.

More Free Fun

Our absolute favorite free activities from the library, aside from the building's fun amenities, are their “Explore to Go Kits”.

They have packaged activity kits that are available to check-out at the front desk. These kits can be checked out for 7 days with no renewal, and they include things such as yoga mats, croquet sets, cornhole games, disc golf, and more.

Some of the kits we saw while there included discovery science kits like “understanding the digestive system,” “star finder kits,” and “puzzle kits.” There was even a large hiking backpack to carry your littlest kiddo! All available for check out at the library.

We also love their Cultural Passes.

A cultural pass is something you check out from the library that gives you two free tickets per pass to culturally enriching activities across the valley. The current tickets include passes to Scottsdale Contemporary Art Museum, Arcosanti – Cordes Junction (this is a home with neat architecture), the heard museum, and the botanical garden.

The tickets included in the cultural pass change from time to time. Here is a link to which cultural passes are available right now.

To get a cultural pass, head to the front desk and ask where you can pick it up. The cultural passes are on a first-come, first-serve basis, so not all of the above activities may be available at any given time.

The Sunrise Library Park and Splash Pad

Another really great free feature of the Sunrise Library in Peoria is the playground and splash pad! My kids absolutely loved playing on their quaint playground and splash pad, complete with swings and lots of climbing equipment. The sunrise library park has an area for your more advanced climbers and a smaller playground for your tots.
