Things to do with young kids in St. George
We went up to visit family in St. George at the end of August, and I gotta say that St. George is one of my favorite places to visit! St. George is full of fun outdoor things to do and great for families!
We were only in St. George for a couple of days, so we couldn’t do all the fun things available, but here is a shortlist of the things we did do and recommend!
The first stop was Glitter Mountain.
I had no idea that Glitter Mountain is technically in Arizona. It’s located about 20 minutes outside Washington, UT, and is right on the Arizona/Utah border.
I had heard so many things about Glitter Mountain that while we were in St. George, it was at the top of my list of places to visit.
Glitter Mountain isn’t really a “mountain”; it’s more like big mounds of dirt, and the dirt is sprinkled small and large pieces of gypsum.
Gypsum is a sparkly white and sometimes clear rock that serves little purpose other than being fun to discover, and sometimes it is used in fertilizers..
All the kids enjoyed exploring the dirt mounds and collecting rocks. You can make your trip to Glitter Mountain as long or as short as you wish.
Grab a few rocks and go or spend time climbing the mounds and investigating more.
Glitter Mountain is free to visit, and there are signs up requesting you pay for the rocks you bring home with a Venmo account to send the money to.

Pioneer Park
Pioneer Park is a great place to explore with young kids! St George has many “slot canyons,’ and Pioneer Park is one of the easiest and most accessible slot canyons to visit, plus it’s free to visit.
When we visited Pioneer Park, we didn’t take any specific trails; we just went exploring, and from what I gathered from the internet, there isn’t any clearly defined trails to take currently.
You can just go explore and get a view of the city, and if you’re lucky, the ice cream truck may stop by too!

Jenny’s Canyon
Jenny’s Canyon is located inside of Snow Canyon State Park, and when we went, the entry fee was $15 a vehicle for non-Utah residents.
Jenny’s Canyon hike is very pretty and very easy to do with young kids. Round trip, the hike is less than a half-mile. The trail is very sandy and requires a small amount of rock climbing but overall was easy to do for my 5 and 3-year-olds.
There are several other trails inside of Snow Canyon Park, but we only did Jenny’s Canyon and then drove Snow Canyon to see its beauty through our car windows! :)

Thunder Junction Park
Thunder Junction, all abilities park, is a big hit with locals and visitors to St. George alike. Thunder Junction is free to visit, and you can spend all afternoon at the Dinosaur themed playground and splashpad. They even have a fully functioning train there too! It’s a must visit when visiting or stopping through St. George! Farmstead Bakery
Every time we travel to someplace new, I love to check out the local eats, and Farmstead Bakery in downtown St George didn’t disappoint. Their menu is baked fresh and changes daily. They offer baked goods and lunch options.
Jordan I both got a sandwich, and then we grabbed a box of baked goods to share with the family we were visiting. The box of pastries was a hit with everyone! The donuts, cookies, and cinnamon twists were all delicious!
