Vietnam Memorial Trail, Surprise, Arizona
The Vietnam Veteran Memorial Trail is located on the Surprise / Peoria border with views of Vistancia!
The Vietnam Memorial Trail is great for young kids and big kids alike. Along your journey up the mountain you’ll see many plaques commemorating the Vietnam Veterans.
Plaques sharing Vietnam War history, quotes, statistics and signs honoring fallen soldiers.
The trail is well trafficked and while it is a steady incline to the top, the path is smooth and clean.
About 1400 feet from the trailhead, there is a flagpole with an American flag, We stopped for lunch on the bench near the flag, gazed at the desert views and headed back down.
The distance from start to flagpole worked well for my 2.5 year olds little legs but if you’re looking for a bit more of a challenge you can continue past the Vietnam Memorial Trail flag and further up the mountain.
The kids really enjoyed reading the plaques as we passed them, seeing the lizards “that do push ups” (aka the desert spiny lizard) and the reward of reaching the big flag at the (midway) top.
Past the flag, the trail continues up a moderate incline with benches along the way for resting and taking in the views. If you continue up the mountain on the Vietnam Memorial trail at the trail's peak, you will see a large rock formation and a final bench.
The full Vietnam Memorial Trail from PVC pipe to summit rock formation is 2.6 miles round trip.
This trail is educational, easy for little legs to accomplish, can challenge you more if you go past the Vietnam Memorial Flag and has great views.
We give the Vietnam Memorial Trail in Surprise 5 out of 5 stars!
Tip: To identify where the trail begins look for the white PVC pipe sticking out from the side of the road, between two piles of rocks.
