The Wild Burro Trail – Detour to Water at Lake Pleasant is The Perfect Hike for Little & Big Kids

Wild Burro Trail, Lake Pleasant, Arizona

The Wild Burro Trail in Lake Pleasant is well trafficked trail with it’s own designated parking area inside the Lake Pleasant Regional Park.

On the Wild Burro Trail it is reported that you will view many wild burros but we’ve been a few times because this is one of our favorite trails and we have yet to see a wild burro! So if you see one, send me a pic I wanna see!

The full Wild Burro Trail is 3.2 miles out and back. We however don’t take the whole trail with our four and two year old we stop at .06 mils and enjoy the water.

If you start at the Wild Burro designated trail head there is a parking area and clean bathrooms. From that point you’ll take the trail down to about 0.6 miles where the trail will open up and you’ll see a hill with a mild incline that will take you to shallow water.

My young kids were able to stand and play in the water with the option to swim out deeper, while I set up blankets on land.

This trail is exceptionally beautiful at dusk considering there is no shade.

And our favorite feature aside from the water is the wide variety of cacti you see on the trail. I’m sure our favorite feature would be the Wild Burros if you can catch a glimpse of them one of these times!
